In-Depth Information
Davis
Davis, home to a University of California school with the nation's leading viticulture de-
partment, is a sunny town where bikes outnumber cars two-to-one (it boasts more bikes
per capita than any other American city). With students comprising about half of the popu-
lation, it's a progressive outpost amid the conservative farm towns of Sacramento Valley
that comes alive during the school year.
Dodging the bikes on a walk through downtown Davis you will pass a number of cute
small businesses (city council has forbidden any store over 50,000 sq ft - sorry, Wal-
Mart).
I-80 skirts the south edge of town, and you can reach downtown via the Richards Blvd
exit. University of California, Davis (UCD) is southwest of downtown, bordered by A St,
1st St and Russell Blvd.
Sights & Activities
Everyone rides here in 'Bike City USA,' probably because the only hill around is the
bridge that crosses over the freeway. Lake Berryessa , 30 miles west, is a favorite destina-
tion.
