About 25 miles north of Yreka, on I-5, just across the Oregon border, Siskiyou Summit
(elevation 4310ft) often closes in winter - even when the weather is just fine on either

Siskiyou County Museum MUSEUM

Several blocks south of the downtown grid, this exceptionally well-curated museum brings
together pioneer and Native American history. An outdoor section contains historic build-
ings brought from around the county.
Siskiyou County Courthouse HISTORIC BUILDING

This hulking downtown building was built in 1857 and has a collection of gold nuggets,
flakes and dust in the foyer.
Blue Goose Steam Excursion Train RAILWAY

This train hisses and chugs along a 100-year-old track. The schedule is sporadic; look at
the website for current information. It's one of the last remaining railroads of California's
quickly vanishing historic rail network.
Yreka Creek Greenway WALKING, CYCLING

Behind the museum, the Yreka Creek Greenway has walking and cycling paths winding
through the trees.
Sleeping & Eating
Motels, motels and more motels: budget travelers can do lots of comparison shopping
along Yreka's Main St for mid-century motels galore. Klamath National Forest runs sever-
al campgrounds; the supervisor's office has information. RV parks cluster on the edge of
town. Wander down W Miner St for more quirky places to eat.
