lies southeast of McCloud, near
the crossroads of Hwys 89 and 299 from Redding. The 129ft falls cascade with the same
volume of water - 100 million gallons per day - and at the same temperature - 42°F (5°C)
- year-round. Clear, lava-filtered water surges over the top and also from springs in the
waterfall's face. Teddy Roosevelt loved this place; he called it the 'Eighth Wonder of the
World.'
A lookout point beside the parking lot also has trails going up and down the creek from
the falls. (Be careful of your footing here; in 2011 there was a fatality in the park when
someone slipped on the rocks.) The nature trail heading downstream leads to Lake Britton;
other hiking trails include a portion of the Pacific Crest Trail. The scenes in the film

(1986) where the boys dodge the train were shot on the Lake Britton Bridge trestle
in the park.
