Historic Lookout & Cabin Rentals CABIN

What better way to rough it in style than to bunk down in a fire lookout on forested
slopes? Built from the 1920s to '40s, cabins come with cots, tables and chairs, have panor-
amic views and can accommodate four people. Details about Hirz Mountain, Little Mt
Hoffman and Post Creek Lookouts can all be found on the national forest website.
Panther Meadows CAMPGROUND
(tent sites free; usually Jul-Nov)
Ten walk-in tent sites (no drinking water) sit at the timberline, right at the base of the
mountain. They're a few miles up the mountain from other options, but are still easily ac-
cessible from Everitt Memorial Hwy. No reservations; arrive early to secure a site.

Tucked away on the shore of Lake Siskiyou, this sprawling place has a summer-camp feel
(there's an arcade and an ice-cream stand). Hardly rustic, it has a swimming beach, and
kayak, canoe, fishing boat and paddle-boat rentals. Lots of amenities make it a good op-
tion for families on an RV trip.
Swiss Holiday Lodge MOTEL

Run by a friendly family and a small, energetic dog, you get a peek of the mountain from
the back windows of these clean, well-priced rooms.
Horse Camp HUT

This 1923 alpine lodge run by the Sierra Club is a 2-mile hike uphill from Bunny Flat, at
8000ft. The stone construction and natural setting are lovely. Caretakers staff the hut from
May to September only.
