WORTH A TRIP
WESTWOOD & THE BIZZ JOHNSON TRAIL
A few miles east of Chester is Westwood, a tiny speck of a town that marks the beginning
of the Bizz Johnson Trail , an extremely picturesque route that runs the remote 25.5
miles from Westwood to Susanville. Once part of the old Southern Pacific right-of-way,
the wooden bridges and serenely crossing-free trail are traversable by foot, mountain
bike, horseback or cross-country skis (no motorized vehicles allowed!). Do the trail in the
Westwood-Susanville direction, as it's mostly downhill that way. Get trail guides at the
chamber of commerce in Chester or at the Susanville Railroad Depot.
