Waterworks Park WATER PARK

Redding gets really hot, and although most hotels and motels have pools, you'll have more
fun splashing around at this water park, including on the four-story-high, cliff-steep
Avalanche, a simulated white-water river, giant waterslides, plus a 'Lazy Lagoon' and kid-
die pool. Great for kids or kid-like adults.
Sleeping
Redding's many motels and hotels (most major chains are represented and many have
small swimming pools) huddle around noisy thoroughfares. A couple of rows lie close to
the I-5 at the southern end of town: just west of the freeway close to the Cypress Ave exit
on Bechelli Lane, and on the east side of the freeway on Hilltop Dr. But aim for the ones
on less-busy N Market St. The best tent camping is just up the road at Whiskeytown Lake
or Shasta Lake.

Just steps from the Sacramento River Trail, this modern, ranch-style home has three com-
fortable upstairs rooms, two with decks. It's a bit suburban, but it's the best independent
stay in Redding. In the evening the sociable hosts invite you for cheese and wine. Bikes
are yours to borrow and the proximity to the trail is inviting.

In a quiet cul-de-sac, a mile north of the river, this Victorian cottage has an expansive
garden with sweeping views. Cozy rooms are packed with antiques, rosebuds and ruffles.
Affable hosts make a big yummy to-do over breakfast.
