A treat for train buffs and kids, Featherbed has 10 comfy, real cabooses on a grassy lawn.
Some of the cabooses straddle the border between kitschy and tacky (the 'Easy Rider' has
a Harley Davidson headboard and a mirrored ceiling), but they're great fun if you keep a
sense of humor. There's a tiny beach across the road.

Harbin Hot Springs SPA
( 800-622-2477, 707-987-2377; www.harbin.org ; Harbin Hot Springs Rd; tent & RV sites midweek/
weekend $30/40, dm $40/60, s $50-75, d $100-190)
Harbin is classic Northern California. Originally a 19th-century health spa and resort, it
now has a retreat-center vibe and people come to unwind in silent, clothing-optional hot-
and cold-spring pools. This is the birthplace of Watsu (floating massage) and there are
wonderful body therapies as well as yoga, holistic-health workshops and 1160 acres of
hiking.
Accommodations are in Victorian buildings (which could use sprucing up) and share a
common vegetarian-only kitchen. Food is available at the market, cafe and restaurant .
Day-trippers are welcome Monday through Thursday only; day rates are $20.
The springs are 3 miles off Hwy 175. From Middletown, take Barnes St, which becomes
Big Canyon Rd, and head left at the fork.
