Sit on the veranda or fireside for a romantic dinner of all-organic game, fish or risotto
primavera. Chef Alan Kantor makes
everything
from scratch and his commitment to sus-
tainability and organic ingredients is nearly as visionary as his menu. The cafe menu,
served at the
Grey Whale Bar
, is one of Mendocino's few four-star bargains.

One of those semi-secret institutions, the menu here changes with what's available locally.
When we passed that meant wonderous things like yogurt and scallion marinated wild
jumbo prawns. The dimly lit, bohemian setting overlooks rambling gardens. Check the
website for the excellent-value, three-course meal with wine for $25 and other events.
Drinking & Nightlife
Have cocktails at the
Mendocino Hotel
or the Grey Whale Bar at the
MacCallum House
Inn
. For boisterousness and beer head straight to
Patterson's Pub
.
Dick's Place
DIVE BAR
A bit out of place among the fancy-pants shops downtown, but an excellent spot to check
out the
other
Mendocino and do shots with rowdy locals.
