Downtown Guerneville's cheeriest resort, Fern Grove has vintage-1930s pine-paneled cab-
ins, tucked beneath redwoods and surrounded by lush flowering gardens. Some have
Jacuzzis and fireplaces. The pool uses salt, not chlorine; the lovely English innkeeper
provides concierge services; and breakfast includes homemade scones.

Guerneville's mellowest all-gay resort sits on a wooded hillside, walkable to town, and has
simply furnished rooms, little cottages with porches, and good camping. The large pool
and hot tub are clothing-optional (weekday/weekend day use $10/15).
R3 Hotel

Ground zero for party-hardy gay lads and lesbians, Triple-R (as it's known) has plain-Jane,
motel-style rooms surrounding a bar and pool deck that get so crowded summer weekends,
management won't allow guests to bring pets because 'they get hurt' (actual quote). Come
for the scene, not for quiet (light-sleepers: bring ear plugs). Midweek it's mellow, winter-
time dead.

Right downtown, Riverlane has basic cabins with kitchens, decorated with mismatched
furniture, but they're very clean and have decks with barbecues. Best for no-frills travelers
or campers wanting an upgrade. Friendly service, heated pool, private beach and hot tub.
