In continuous operation since 1913, this 340-acre homestead outside town is a flashback to
old California. Doubling as a retreat center, the ranch has simple lodge rooms and rustic
freestanding cabins, some with kitchens and fireplaces, ideal for families, but you may be
here during someone else's family reunion or spiritual quest.
No matter. With miles of oak-woodland trails, a hilltop swimming pool, private lake
with canoeing and fishing, and hike-to warm springs in a magical fault-line canyon, you
may hardly notice - and you may never make it to a single winery. Breakfast is included,
but you'll have to drive 15 minutes to town for dinner. Pack hiking boots, not high heels.
