In-Depth Information
menu $225; 5:30-10pm Mon-Sat)
If you couldn't score reservations at
French Laundry
, fear not: Meadowood - the valley's
only other Michelin-three-star restaurant - has a slightly more sensibly priced menu, eleg-
antly unfussy dining room, and lavish haute cuisine that's not too esoteric.
Auberge
has
better views, but Meadowood's food and service far surpass it.
Terra
CALIFORNIAN
6-course menus $78/93/105; 6-9pm Wed-Sun)
Seamlessly blending Japanese, French and Italian culinary styles, Terra is one of Wine
Country's top tables - the signature is broiled sake-marinated black cod with shrimp
dumplings in shiso broth. The adjioning bar serves small bites without reservations, but
the dining room's the thing.
Goose & Gander
NEW AMERICAN
5-10pm Sun-Thu, noon-midnight Fri & Sat)
Inside a converted Craftsman house, with cathedral ceiling and gorgeous woodwork,
Goose & Gander has a clubby vibe conducive to drinking, excellent craft cocktails, and an
imaginative (sometimes heavy) menu with some standouts, like the summertime-only
shrimp-and-watermelon salad. Consider the garden. Boozy locals favor the basement pub.
