Meadowood
RESORT
Lane; r from $600; )
Hidden in a wooded dell with towering pines and miles of hiking, Napa's grandest resort
has cottages and rooms in satellite buildings surrounding a croquet lawn. We most like the
hillside fireplace cottages; lawn-view rooms lack privacy but are good for families. The
vibe is Republican country club: wear linen and play
Great Gatsby.
Kids love the mam-
moth pool.

8am-5:30pm)
Before the advent of fancy-food stores, this ramshackle market introduced Napa to Italian
delicacies - real prosciutto and salami, meaty olives, fresh bread, nutty cheeses and, of
course, olive oil. Ask nicely and the owner will lend you a knife and a board to picnic at
the rickety tables in the grass outside. Cash only.
