Arcadia STEAK
( GOOGLE MAP ; 408-278-4555; www.michaelmina.net/restaurants ; 100 W San Carlos St; lunch
mains $12-19, dinner mains $28-50; 6:30am-2pm daily, 5:30-10pm Mon-Sat)
This fine New American steakhouse restaurant in the Marriott Hotel is run by Chef Mi-
chael Mina, one of San Francisco's biggest celebrity chefs. It's not the daring, cutting-edge
style Mina is known for, but it's slick, expensive and, of course, very good.
Drinking & Nightlife
The biggest conglomeration of clubs is on S 1st St, aka SoFA, and around S 2nd at San
Fernando. Raucous young clubgoers pack the streets on Friday and Saturday nights.
Singlebarrel COCKTAIL BAR
( www.singlebarrelsj.com ; 43 W San Salvador St; 5pm-midnight Sun & Tue, 5pm-1:30am Wed-Sat)
A speakeasy-style lounge, where bartenders sheathed in tweed vests artfully mix custom
cocktails ($12) tailored to customer's preferences, with some recipes dating back to before
Prohibition. There's often a line out the door, but you'll be whisked downstairs as soon as
they're ready to craft you a drink.
Caffe Frascati CAFE
( www.caffefrascati.com ; 315 S 1st St;
7am-10pm Mon-Thu, to midnight Fri, 8am-midnight Sat, to
9pm Sun; )
Photos of local theater folks line the walls at this high-ceilinged hangout a few doors down
from the California Theatre. Linger over a cappuccino with a pastry or panini, and stop by
for live music on Friday and Saturday nights. Opera performances rattle the cups the first
Friday of each month.
Trials Pub PUB
( GOOGLE MAP ; www.trialspub.com ; 265 N 1st St; from 5pm)
If you seek a well-poured pint in a supremely comfortable atmosphere, Trials Pub, north of
San Pedro Sq, has many excellent ales on tap (try a Fat Lip), all served in a warm and
friendly room with no TVs. There's good pub food and a fireplace in the back room.
