An upscale Main St-style mall, Santana Row is a mixed-use space west of downtown with
shopping, dining and entertainment along with a boutique hotel, lofts and apartments. Res-
taurants spill out onto sidewalk terraces, and public spaces have been designed to invite
loitering and promenading. On warm evenings, the Mediterranean-style area swarms with
an energetic crowd.

Who knew that a sugary confection with a hole could induce such devious giggles and
7am-10pm Mon-Thu, to midnight Fri, 8am-midnight Sat, to 10pm Sun; ), where counter staff
dressed in saucy medical garb hand out bubble wrap to pop as patrons choose from twis-
ted flavors like Cereal Killer (topped with marshmallows and Cap'n Crunch breakfast cer-
eal), Headbanger (death-metal visage oozing red jelly) and the tantalizing square S'mores
(campfire not included).
Sleeping
Conventions and trade shows keep the downtown hotels busy year-round, and midweek
rates are usually higher than weekends.

Southeast of San Jose near Morgan Hill, this huge state park has 20 drive-in campsites at
the top of an open ridge overlooking the hills and canyons of the park's backcountry.
There are no showers. You can't make reservations less than two days in advance, though
it rarely fills up except on spring and summer holidays and weekends.
Hikers (permit $5) can overnight in the park's vast wilderness.
