In-Depth Information
The regional company AC Transit ( 511, 510-817-1717; www.actransit.org ) operates a number
of buses from San Francisco's Transbay Temporary Terminal to the East Bay. The F line
leaves from the Transbay Temporary Terminal to the corner of University and Shattuck
Aves approximately every half-hour ($4.20, 30 minutes).
Between Berkeley and downtown Oakland ($2.10) on weekdays, take the fast and fre-
quent 1R bus along Telegraph Ave between the two city centers, or bus 18 that runs daily
via Martin Luther King Jr Way. Bus 51B travels along University Ave from Berkeley
BART to the Berkeley Marina.
CAR & MOTORCYCLE
With your own wheels you can approach Berkeley from San Francisco by taking the Bay
Bridge and then following either I-80 (for University Ave, downtown Berkeley and the
UCB campus) or Hwy 24 (for College Ave and the Berkeley Hills).
Driving to San Francisco, the bridge toll is $4 to $6, depending on the time and day of
the week.

Amtrak does stop in Berkeley, but the shelter is not staffed and direct connections are few.
More convenient is the nearby Emeryville Amtrak station (

To reach the Emeryville station from downtown Berkeley, take a Transbay F bus or ride
BART to the MacArthur station and then take the free Emery Go Round bus (Hollis route)
to Amtrak.
