Most Bay Area residents have never heard of this speck of an island off the East Bay city
of Richmond, and even fewer know that the East Brother Light Station is an extraordinary
five-room Victorian B&B. Spend the night in the romantic lighthouse or fog signal building
(the foghorn is used from October through March), where every window has stupendous
bay views and harbor seals frolic in the frigid currents.
Resident innkeepers serve afternoon hors d'oeuvres and champagne, and between
gourmet meals you can stroll around the breezy one-acre islet and rummage through his-
torical photos and artifacts.
