Sights & Activities
Approximately 13 miles east of San Francisco, Berkeley is bordered by the bay to the
west, the hills to the east and Oakland to the south. I-80 runs along the town's western
edge, next to the marina; from here University Ave heads east to downtown and the cam-
pus.
Shattuck Ave crosses University Ave one block west of campus, forming the main
crossroads of the downtown area. Immediately to the south is the downtown shopping strip
and the downtown Berkeley BART station.
WATERSPORTS ON THE BAY
The San Francisco Bay makes a lovely postcard or snapshot, and there are myriad outfits
to help you play in it.

sailing, windsurfing and sea-kayaking classes and rentals for adults and youth.
Cal Sailing Club ( www.cal-sailing.org ; Berkeley Marina) An affordable membership-based
and volunteer-run nonprofit with sailing and windsurfing programs, based at the Berkeley
Marina.
Boardsports School & Shop ( www.boardsportsschool.com ) Offers lessons and rentals for
kiteboarding, windsurfing and stand-up paddleboarding from its three locations in San
Francisco, Alameda (East Bay) and Coyote Point.
Sea Trek Kayak & SUP Located in Sausalito, it has kayaking and stand-up paddle-
boards, and a fabulous full moon paddle tour.
