In-Depth Information
Hawk Hill
HILL
About 2 miles along Conzelman Rd is Hawk Hill, where thousands of migrating birds of
prey soar along the cliffs from late summer to early fall.
Point Bonita Lighthouse
LIGHTHOUSE
At the end of Conzelman Rd, this lighthouse is a breathtaking half-mile walk from a small
parking area. From the tip of Point Bonita, you can see the distant Golden Gate Bridge and
beyond it the San Francisco skyline. It's an uncommon vantage point of the bay-centric
city, and harbor seals haul out nearby in season. To reserve a spot on one of the free
monthly full-moon tours of the promontory, call 415-331-1540.
Nike Missile Site SF-88
HISTORIC SITE

; off Field Rd;
12:30pm-3:30pm Thu-Sat)
File past guard shacks with uniformed mannequins to witness the area's not-too-distant
military history at this fascinating Cold War museum staffed by veterans. Watch them
place a now-warhead-free missile into position, then ride a missile elevator to the cav-
ernous underground silo to see the multikeyed launch controls that were thankfully never
set in motion.
Marine Mammal Center
ANIMAL RESCUE CENTER
Set on the hill above Rodeo Lagoon, the Marine Mammal Center rehabilitates injured, sick
and orphaned sea mammals before returning them to the wild, and has educational exhibits
about these animals and the dangers they face. During the spring pupping season the center
can have up to several dozen orphaned seal pups on site and you can often see them before
they're set free.
