Getting There & Away
AIR
San Francisco is served by three major airports:
San Francisco International Airport Most international flights arrive/depart SFO, 14 miles
south of downtown SF off Hwy 101.
Oakland International Airport Travelers from other US cities may find flights that ar-
rive across the Bay on discount airlines such as JetBlue and Southwest.
Norman Y Mineta San Jose International Airport Just 50 miles south of San Francisco
along Hwy 101, and accessible via Caltrain.
BUS
Until the new terminal is completed in 2017, SF's intercity hub remains the Temporary
Transbay Terminal ( GOOGLE MAP ; Howard & Main Sts) , where you can catch buses on AC
Transit ( www.actransit.org ) to the East Bay, Golden Gate Transit ( ht-
tp://goldengatetransit.org ) north to Marin and Sonoma, and SamTrans
( www.samtrans.com ) south to Palo Alto and the Pacific coast. Greyhound (
800-231-2222; www.greyhound.com ) buses leave daily for Los Angeles ($59, eight to 12
hours), Truckee near Lake Tahoe ($31, 5½ hours), and other destinations.
CAR & MOTORCYCLE
Major car-rental operators (Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Hertz, Thrifty) have offices at
airports and downtown.
