The name is a throw-down of Neapolitan pizza credentials - '00' flour is used for Naples'
famous puffy-edged crust - and these pies deliver on that promise, with inspired SF-
themed toppings. The Geary is a crossover hit with Manila clams, bacon and chilies, but
the real crowd-pleaser is the Castro, turbo-loaded with housemade sausage.
Benu CALIFORNIAN, FUSION
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 415-685-4860; www.benusf.com ; 22 Hawthorne St; tasting menu $195;
5:30-8:30pm seatings Tue-Sat; 10, 12, 14, 30, 45)
SF has refined fusion cuisine over 150 years, but no one rocks it quite like chef/owner
Corey Lee (formerly of Napa's French Laundry), who remixes local, sustainable, fine-din-
ing staples and Pacific Rim flavors with a SoMa DJ's finesse. Dungeness crab and truffle
bring such outsize flavor to his faux-shark's-fin soup, you'll swear there's Jaws in there.
The Mission & the Castro
La Taqueria MEXICAN
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ;

11am-9pm Mon-Sat, to
8pm Sun; ; 12, 14, 48, 49, 24th St Mission)
SF's definitive burrito has no debatable saffron rice, spinach tortilla or mango salsa - just
perfectly grilled meats, slow-cooked beans and classic tomatillo or mesquite salsa wrapped
in flour tortillas. Spicy pickles and crema (Mexican sour cream) bring complete burrito
bliss.
