This coffee shop is a hometown favorite for blueberry pancakes at breakfast and a combin-

This lively joint with its cheerful decor serves the best Mexican food in town, including
delicious huevos rancheros. The bar staff knows how to whip up a good margarita.

Even though the decor feels like it hasn't been updated since the 1970s, locals pick Car-
lee's for its burgers, pastas and steak dinners. The pool table, live music and karaoke are
big draws, too.

Driving through the park is free but if you camp, hike or picnic, a day fee of $8 per car ap-
plies. You'll need a 4WD to tackle the 500 miles of backcountry dirt road.
Borrego Springs has stores, ATMs, banks, gas stations, a post office and a public library
with free internet access and wi-fi. Cell phones may work in Borrego Springs but nowhere
else.
