Getting There & Away
WHAT THE…?
West of Palm Springs, you may do a double take when you see the World's Biggest Dino-
saurs ( 951-922-0076; www.cabazondinosaurs.com ; 50770 Seminole Dr, Cabazon; adult/child
$8/7; 10am-5:30pm Mon-Fri, 10am-6:30pm Sat & Sun). Claude K Bell, a sculptor for Knott's
Berry Farm, spent over a decade crafting these concrete behemoths, now owned by
Christian creationists who contend that God created the original dinosaurs in one day,
along with the other animals. In the gift shop, alongside the sort of dino-swag you might
find at science museums, you can read about the alleged hoaxes and fallacies of evolution
and Darwinism.
AIR
A 10-minute drive northeast of downtown, Palm Springs International Airport is served
year-round by Alaska, Allegiant, American, Delta, Horizon, United, US Airways and
Westjet, and seasonally by Frontier, Sun Country and Virgin America.
BUS
Greyhound ( www.greyhound.com ) operates a few daily buses to/from LA ($28, three
hours). The terminus is at Palm Springs train station.
CAR & MOTORCYCLE
From LA, the trip to Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley takes about two to three hours
via I-10 with no traffic. With traffic, it's anybody's guess.
TRAIN
Amtrak ( www.amtrak.com ) serves the unstaffed and kinda-creepy - it's deserted and in
the middle of nowhere - North Palm Springs station, 5 miles north of downtown Palm
Springs. Trains run to/from LA ($41, 2½ hours) a few days per week and are often late.
