In-Depth Information
This local institution can't be beat for breakfast burritos, multigrain pancakes, stir-fries,
salads, smoothies and three-egg ohm -lettes (sorry, we couldn't resist). Vegetarians will be
satisfied too. Most of the seating is out on an umbrella-covered patio.

the homemade gnocchi, ravioli or lasagne, salmon in brandy mustard sauce or pollo uno
zero uno (101; chicken stuffed with cheese, spinach and artichokes in mushroom sauce)
and you'll know why this mom-and-pop Italian trattoria is always packed. Reservations
are recommended.
El Callejon MEXICAN
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 760-634-2793; www.el-callejon.com ; 345 S Coast Hwy 101; mains $9-22;
11am-9pm Mon-Thu, to 11pm Fri, 10am-11pm Sat, 10am-9pm Sun; )
A raucous, fun, local favorite, this indoor-outdoor candy-colored cantina is at the north
end of the town center. The menu is as long as the phone book of a small village, and it
would take you over two years of trying a different tequila every day to go through the
tequila list.
North Encinitas/Leucadia
Pannikin Coffee & Tea CAFE
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 760-436-0033; mains $4-8; 6am-6pm)
In a sunny yellow wooden building that used to be the Encinitas train station (transported
from its original site), Pannikin is an adorable sprawl of nooks, crannies, balconies and
lawns. Muffins and coffees are wonderful, natch, and bagel and lox with steamed
scrambled eggs is very attractive indeed.
