Del Mar's biggest draw was founded in 1937 by a prestigious group including Bing
Crosby and Jimmy Durante, and is still worth a visit for its lush gardens and Mediter-
ranean architecture. Go on opening day for the spectacle of ladies wearing over-the-top
hats.
