Getting There & Away
From Laguna Beach, ride OCTA ( 714-560-6282; www.octa.net ) bus 1 south to Dana Point.
At the intersection of Pacific Coast Hwy and Del Obispo St, catch bus 91 northbound to-
ward Mission Viejo, which drops you near the Mission. Buses run every 30 to 60 minutes.
The trip takes about an hour. You'll have to pay the one-way fare ($2, exact change) twice.
Drivers should take I-5 exit 82 (Ortega Hwy), then head west about 0.25 miles. There's
free three-hour parking on streets and in municipal lots.
The Amtrak ( 800-872-7245; www.amtrak.com ; 26701 Verdugo St) depot is one block south
and west of the Mission. You could arrive by train from LA ($21, 75 minutes) or San
Diego ($22, 90 minutes). A few daily Metrolink ( 800-371-5465; www.metrolinktrains.com )
commuter trains link San Juan Capistrano to Orange ($8, 45 minutes), with limited con-
nections to Anaheim.
Dana Point
Dana Point's built-up, parking-lotted harbor detracts from its charm, but it still gets lots of
visitors for its lovely beaches and port and for whale watching and sport fishing.
