One of SoCal's best beaches. Surrounding the pier at the foot of Main St, it gets packed on
summer weekends with surfers, volleyball players, swimmers and families. Check at the
visitor center for dog-friendly beaches and parks.
By night, volleyball games give way to beach bonfires. Stake out one of the 1000 ce-
ment fire rings early in the day, and you can buy firewood from concessionaires.
Activities
If you forgot to pack beach gear, you can rent umbrellas, beach chairs, volleyballs, bikes
and other essentials from Zack's Pier Plaza . Just south of the pier on the Strand, friendly
Dwight's Beach Concession (201 Pacific Coast Hwy) , around since 1932, rents bikes, boo-
gies boards, umbrellas and chairs.
Surfing
Surfing in HB is competitive. If you're a novice, take lessons, or risk annoying the locals.
