Red Line The most useful for visitors, it links downtown's Union Station to North Hol-
lywood (San Fernando Valley) via central Hollywood and Universal City.
Blue Line Downtown to Long Beach; connects with the Red Line at 7th St/Metro
Center station and the Green Line at the Imperial/Wilmington stop.
Gold Line East LA to Little Tokyo, Chinatown and Pasadena via Union Station, Mt
Washington and Highland Park; connects with the Red Line at Union Station.
Green Line Norwalk to Redondo Beach; connects with the Blue Line at Imperial/Wilm-
ington.
Purple Line Subway between downtown LA and Koreatown; shares six stations with
the Red Line.
Orange Line Links downtown and Hollywood with the west San Fernando Valley; con-
nects with the Red Line in North Hollywood.
Expo Line Links USC and Exposition Park with Culver City to the west and downtown
LA to the northeast, where it connects with the Red Line at Union Station. The Santa
Monica extension is scheduled to open in 2015.
Santa Monica-based Big Blue Bus ( 310-451-5444; www.bigbluebus.com ; fares from $1)
burns clean fuel and serves Santa Monica, Venice, Westwood and LAX ($1). Its express
bus 10 runs from Santa Monica to downtown ($2, one hour).
The Culver CityBus ( www.culvercity.org ) provides service throughout Culver City and
the Westside, including LAX ($1). Long Beach Transit ( www.lbtransit.com ) serves Long
Beach and surrounding communities.
DASH Buses, operated by the LA Department of Transportation (LADOT;
www.ladottransit.com ) , offer 33 routes serving local communities (50ยข per boarding) until
7pm.
TAXI
Because of LA's size and traffic, getting around by cab will cost you. Cabs are best organ-
ized over the phone, though some prowl the streets late at night. In the city of LA, taxi
rates are $2.85 at flagfall plus about $2.70 per mile. Cabs leaving from LAX charge a $4

Uber and UberX ( www.uber.com ) are extremely popular for cheap and more luxurious
rides in LA.
