In-Depth Information

Sun)
Indoor-outdoor venue that's party central for manly men, with nary a twink in sight. Take
off your shirt and join the Sunday-afternoon beer bust (it's an institution), but get there
early or expect a long wait.
Santa Monica
Basement Tavern BAR
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; www.basementtavern.com ; 2640 Main St; 5pm-2am)
A creative speakeasy, housed in the basement of a Victorian, and our favorite well in Santa
Monica. We love it for its craftsman cocktails, cozy booths, island bar and nightly live-mu-
sic calendar that features blues, jazz, bluegrass and rock. It gets way too busy on weekends
for our taste, however. Weeknights can be special.
Misfit LOUNGE
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ;
310-656-9800; www.themisfitbar.com ; 225 Santa Monica Blvd;
noon-
late Mon-Fri, from 11am Sat & Sun)
This darkly lit emporium of food, drink and fun is notable for the decent - not great -
menu, and phenomenal cocktails made from craftsman spirits. Set in a historic building
decked out with a retro interior, it's busy from brunch to last call.
Venice
Townhouse & Delmonte Speakeasy BAR
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; www.townhousevenice.com ; 52 Windward Ave;
5pm-2am Mon-Thu,
noon-2am Fri-Sun)
Upstairs is a cool, dark and perfectly dingy bar with pool tables, booths and good booze.
Downstairs is the speakeasy, where DJs spin pop, funk and electronic music, comics take
the mic and jazz players set up and jam. It's a reliably good time almost any night.
