We quite like this musty temple to the stars, crammed with kitsch posters, costumes and
rotating props. The museum is housed inside the handsome 1914 art-deco Max Factor
Building, where the make-up pioneer once worked his magic on Marilyn Monroe and Judy
Garland.
Technically, it's illegal to hike up to the sign, but viewing spots are plentiful, including
Hollywood & Highland, the top of Beachwood Dr and the Griffith Observatory.

The Academy Awards are handed out at the Dolby Theatre, which has also hosted the
American Idol finale, the ESPY awards, the Miss USA pageant and a recent Neil Young
residency. On the tour you get to sniff around the auditorium, admire a VIP room and see
Oscar up close.
