Dear sweet Hollywood, the vortex of a global entertainment industry, has some backstory.
First, there was the Golden Age, the dawn of motion pictures, when industry strongmen
ruled and owned it all. Then the '70s happened, which brought edgy productions even
while studios fled in search of more space in Burbank and Studio City. Soon the only
'stars' left were embedded in the sidewalk. Worse, you had to hopscotch around runaways
and addicts to see them. In the late '90s the momentum began to shift, and over the next 10
years, big, intelligent dollars, along with a touch of smart design flooded the area and
transformed it into what it is today. A gleaming, bustling, gritty, dazzling mosh pit of fun,
food and questionable behavior.
