In-Depth Information
MTD's electric Downtown Shuttle buses run along State St down to Stearns Wharf every
10 to 30 minutes from 9am to 6pm daily. A second Waterfront Shuttle travels from Stearns
Wharf west to the harbor and east to the zoo every 15 to 30 minutes from 9am or 10am to
6pm daily. Between late May and early September, both routes also run every 15 minutes
from 6pm to 9pm on Fridays and Saturdays. The fare is 50ยข per ride; transfers between
routes are free.
Lil' Toot water taxi provides an ecofriendly, biodiesel-fueled ride between Stearns
Wharf and the harbor, docking in front of the maritime museum. Look for ticket booths on
the waterfront. Trips run every half-hour, weather permitting.
For bicycle rentals, Wheel Fun Rentals has two locations by Stearns Wharf. Downtown,
Pedego rents electric bicycles (per hour/day from $16/70) and pedal-it-yourself models
(from $10/40).
Taxis are metered around $3 at flagfall, with an additional $3 to $4 for each mile. Call
Yellow Cab.
Downtown street parking or in any of a dozen municipal lots is free for the first 75
minutes; each additional hour costs $1.50.
SANTA BARBARA WINE COUNTRY
Oak-dotted hillsides, winding country lanes, rows of sweetly heavy grapevines stretching
as far as the eye can see - it's hard not to gush about the Santa Ynez and Santa Maria Val-
leys and the Santa Rita Hills wine regions. From fancy convertibles and Harleys to eco-
friendly touring vans and road bikes, you'll find an eclectic, friendly mix of travelers shar-
ing these bucolic back roads.
You may be inspired to visit by the Oscar-winning film Sideways, which is like real life
in at least one respect: this Wine Country is ideal for do-it-yourself-exploring with friends.
