In-Depth Information
From late October until February, more than 25,000 black-and-orange monarchs make
their winter home here. Forming dense clusters in the tops of eucalyptus trees, they might
easily be mistaken for leaves. Between 10am and 4pm during the roosting season, volun-
teers can tell you all about the insects' incredible journey, which outlasts any single gener-
ation of butterflies. Look for a gravel parking pull-out on the ocean side of Pacific Blvd
(Hwy 1), just south of Pismo State Beach's North Beach Campground.

and Shell Beach Rd, while motels cluster near the beach and along Hwy 101.
