This French-themed, gay-friendly 'bed et breakfast' is a mostly charming retrofit of a
courtyard motel. Each room is tastefully decorated with Provençal flair, and breakfast is a
gourmet feast. The front rooms catch some street noise. Pet fee $25.
MADONNA INN
'Oh, my!' is one of the more printable exclamations overheard from visitors at the
Madonna Rd; r $189-309; ), a garish confection visible from Hwy 101. You'd ex-
pect outrageous kitsch like this in Las Vegas, not SLO, but here it is, in all its campy extra-
vagance. Japanese tourists, vacationing Midwesterners and hipster, irony-loving urban-
ites all adore the 110 themed rooms - including Yosemite Rock, Caveman and hot-pink
Floral Fantasy. Check out photos of the different rooms online, or wander the halls and
spy into the ones being cleaned. The urinal in the men's room is a bizarre waterfall. But
the most irresistible reason to stop here? Old-fashioned cookies from the storybook-
esque bakery.
