Getting There & Around
A few miles east of downtown off Hwy 68, Monterey Peninsula Airport has flights with
United (LA, San Francisco and Denver), American (LA), Alaska (San Diego), Allegiant
Air (Las Vegas) and US Airways (Phoenix).
Monterey Airbus ( 831-373-7777; www.montereyairbus.com ; ) links Monterey with in-
ternational airports in San Jose ($40, 1½ hours) and San Francisco ($50, 2½ hours) almost
a dozen times daily; book online for discounts.
To get here on public transportation, first take a Greyhound bus or Amtrak train to Sali-
nas, then catch a Thruway bus (for Amtrak train passengers only) or MST bus 20 to
Monterey ($3.50, one hour, every 30 to 60 minutes).
Monterey-Salinas Transit (MST; 888-678-2871; www.mst.org ; single-ride $1.50-3.50, day
pass $10) operates local and regional buses; routes converge on downtown's Transit Plaza
( GOOGLE MAP ; cnr Pearl & Alvarado Sts) . From late May until early September, MST's free
trolley loops around downtown, Fisherman's Wharf and Cannery Row between 10am and
7pm or 8pm daily.
