Sweet and savory, all-American breakfasts and lunches and bottomless pitchers of coffee
merrily weigh down outdoor tables at this cafe uphill from the aquarium. Try the unusual
'bluegerm' pancakes or a spicy Sonoran frittata.
LouLou's Griddle in the Middle AMERICAN
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; www.loulousgriddle.com ; Municipal Wharf 2; mains $8-16;
usually
7:30am-3pm & 5-8:30pm Wed-Mon; )
Stroll down the municipal wharf to this zany diner, best for breakfasts of ginormous pan-
cakes and omelettes with Mexican pico de gallo salsa or fresh seafood for lunch. Breezy
outdoor tables are dog-friendly.
Montrio Bistro CALIFORNIAN
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 831-648-8880; www.montrio.com ; 414 Calle Principal; mains $17-29;
5-10pm Sun-Thu, to 11pm Fri & Sat; )
Inside a 1910 firehouse, Montrio looks dolled up with leather walls and iron trellises, but
the tables have butcher paper and crayons for kids. The eclectic seasonal menu mixes loc-
al, organic fare with Californian, Asian and European flair, including tapas-style small
bites and mini desserts.

831-373-4647; 2114 Del Monte Ave; mains $9-28;
11:30am-2:30pm Mon-Fri,
5-9:30pm daily; )
Watched over by photos of Sicilian fishermen, dig into oak-grilled or blackened swordfish,
barbecued oysters or, for those stout of heart, the Mexican squid steak. Reservations are
essential (it's so crowded), but the vibe is island-casual: Hawaiian shirts seem to be de ri-
gueur for men.
