The Mammoth Lakes Welcome Center ( GOOGLE MAP ; 760-924-5500, 888-466-2666;
www.visitmammoth.com ; 8am-5pm) and the Mammoth Lakes Ranger Station (
GOOGLE MAP ; 760-924-5500; www.fs.fed.us/r5/inyo ; 8am-5pm) share a building on the
north side of Hwy 203. This one-stop information center issues wilderness permits and
rents bear canisters, helps find accommodations and campgrounds, and provides road and
trail condition updates. From May through October, when trail quotas are in effect, walk-in
wilderness permits are released at 11am the day before; permits are self-issue the rest of
the year.
Two weekly newspapers, the Mammoth Times ( www.mammothtimes.com ) and the free
Sheet ( www.thesheetnews.com ), carry local news and events listings.

Getting There & Around
Mammoth's updated airport Mammoth Yosemite (MMH; www.visitmammoth.com/airport ;
1300 Airport Rd, Mammoth Lakes) has a daily nonstop flight to San Francisco, operating
winter through to spring on United ( www.united.com ) . Alaska Airlines ( www.alaskaair.com )
runs year-round service to Los Angeles, and ski season service to San Diego. All flights
are about an hour. Taxis meet incoming flights, and some lodgings provide free transfers.
