Getting There & Around
Coming from the south, Hwy 198 runs north from Visalia through Three Rivers past Min-
eral King Rd to the Ash Mountain entrance. Beyond here the road continues as the Gener-
als Hwy, a narrow and windy road snaking all the way into Kings Canyon National Park,
where it joins the Kings Canyon Scenic Byway (Hwy 180) near the western Big Stump en-
trance. Vehicles over 22ft long may have trouble negotiating the steep road with its many
hairpin curves. Budget about one hour to drive from the entrance to the Giant Forest/
Lodgepole area and another hour from there to Grant Grove Village in Kings Canyon.
Sequoia Shuttle ( 877-287-4453; www.sequoiashuttle.com ; one way/round-trip $7.50/15;
late-May-early Sep) buses run five times daily between Visalia and the Giant Forest Mu-
seum (2½ hours) via Three Rivers; reservations required.
Shuttle buses run every 15 minutes from the Giant Forest Museum to Moro Rock and
Crescent Meadow or to the General Sherman Tree parking areas and Lodgepole Village.
Another route links Lodgepole, Wuksachi Lodge and Dorst Creek Campground every 30
minutes. All routes are free and currently operate 9am to about 6pm from late May to early
September.
