This museum has Miwok and Paiute artifacts, including woven baskets, beaded buckskin
dresses and dance capes made from feathers. There's also an
art gallery
with paintings
and photographs from the museum's permanent collection. Behind the museum, a self-
guided interpretive trail winds past a reconstructed c 1870
Indian village
with pounding
stones, an acorn granary, a ceremonial roundhouse and a conical bark house.
Ahwahnee Hotel
HISTORIC BUILDING
About a quarter-mile east of Yosemite Village, the Ahwahnee Hotel is a graceful blend of
rustic mountain retreat and elegant mansion dating back to 1927. You don't need to be a
guest to have a gawk and a wander. Built from local granite, pine and cedar, the building is
splendidly decorated with leaded glass, sculpted tiles, Native American rugs and Turkish
kilims. You can enjoy a meal in the baronial dining room or a casual drink in the piano bar.
