phlegmatic temperament and reluctance to bite contribute to the popularity of this species in
private collections. Rare protracted bites by this species have caused significant local effects, and
these have most often occurred while a captive specimen was offered food, or handled after the
victim had prolonged contact with food items (see Section 4.1 and Table 4.1 ).
