a significant number of thoroughly documented life-threatening and fatal envenomations.
Monovalent anti- D. typus antivenom rapidly resolves envenomation-induced coagulopathy, but
is often difficult to obtain. These snakes are active and alert; note the large eyes (see Section 4.3
and Table 4.1 ).

(B) Dispholidus typus , green or “Jungle” phase, South Africa. There are multiple
color phases of this species (see the following plates), and this can confuse identification,
particularly of dead specimens brought with a presenting snakebite victim to medical
personnel unfamiliar with snakes. There is sexual color dimorphism among some populations,
with males often green and females usually brown, but this is geographically variable.
