A former
member of the genus
Coluber
, this common fast-moving species feeds on a generalized diet
consisting of lizards, small mammals, nestling birds, and amphibians. There is a single case of
neuropathy dubiously assigned to a bite by this species. The patient's illness was very likely
due to a far more common etiology (see Section 4.4;
Table 4.1
).

Several reports
have described mild local effects from bites by this species. One case was erringly ascribed
to the Central American blood snake,
Stenorrhina freminvillei
. This was later corrected via
examination of the photo accompanying the original report, and the case report re-assigned to
C. lineatus
(see text).
