Plate 4.13 (A-C) Dahls' Whipsnake ( Platyceps najadum ). An active inhabitant of semiarid
terrain, this species was previously included in the polyphyletic genus, Coluber (see text and
other plates). Almost all documented, and anecdotally reported bites by this snake have been
insignificant. However, one alleged case that occurred in Greece was presumptively implicated
with a fatal progressive segmental neuropathy. This case is critically evaluated in Section 4.4.
