an unverified
species,
likely an A.
portoricensis

by Heatwole and Banuchi (1966), the victim's
wound was incised and drained. There was
reportedly rapid progression of edema from arm
to axilla, and involving the upper pectoralis.
Patient was given “gas gangrene polyvalent
antitoxin” that likely caused delayed Type III
immune complex disease. The patient was treated
with steroids and antibiotics. García-Gubern et al.
(2010) reported six A. portoricensis bites (five
verified and one presumed) that occurred from
1998 to 2007. All of the bites were protracted
(the snake remained attached for 1-4 min) and
