Plate 4.84 (A-E) Asian keel-backs, flower snakes, or garter snakes ( Amphiesma spp.).
There are about 41 species of Amphiesma , and some of these Asian natricids are commonly
seen in the commercial snake trade. Due to pattern variability and appearance that may be
similar to some members of the genus Rhabdophis , some Amphiesma (particularly A. stolata )
have occasionally been mistaken for the hazard level 1 species, R. tigrinus and R. subminiatus
(see Section 4.3; compare with Plates 4.45A-C and 4.46A and B). There are no documented
medically significant bites by Amphiesma spp.
