Fig. 8 Effect of Ceramide C10 on UACC 933 melanoma cells. The cell death of UACC 933
melanoma cells is induced ( b ) by treatment with decanoyl-ceramide (Cer 10 ) rhodamine
WT-calcium phosphosilicate nanoparticles (CPSNPs) when compared to ( a ) the treatment with
control calcium phosphate nanoparticles. ( c ) An MTS cytotoxicity assay demonstrates dosage
dependent cell death for Cer 10 CPSNPs in UACC 903 cells (Reproduced from Kester ( 2008 ). With
permission)
on these results, CPSNPs could be further investigated in vivo for the delivery of
other hydrophobic chemotherapeutics, especially using similar synthetic
approaches where the drug is shielded from degradation via encapsulation inside
the nanoparticles.
