Zheng et al. ( 2011 ) reported the biofabrication of AuNPs (by means of egg shell
membrane) and their application in the glucose biosensor for blood glucose deter-
mination (further information in Sect. 3.5.1 and Zheng et al. ( 2010a )). The biosen-
sor has been also applied to measure the glucose content in human blood serum
samples (showing agreement with a standard routine medical spectrophotometric
test method).
3.4
Antimicrobial Applications
Although this chapter may have been included in discussion of medical usages
( Sect. 3.3 ), authors have decided to create a new section to address the increasingly
large amount of studies being published in this area (Table 4 ).
