Stepper motors are designed to rotate in discrete steps. They operate by turning on one coil
(coil 1, for example) in one direction, then turning off coil 1 and turning on coil 2, then
turning on 1 in the reverse direction, then 2 in reverse, and then back to 1 forward, as
shown in Figure 4-9 .
