Installing Active Endpoints BPEL Designer
Problem
You want to create your BPEL processes more quickly and present them in a way that process
analysts can understand.
Solution
Use a graphical BPEL designer, such as Active Endpoints Community Edition. This designer
is available for Linux and Windows. It can be installed as a standalone Eclipse-based product,
or as a plug-in to your existing Eclipse environment.
Discussion
To download an evaluation edition of Active Endpoints Designer, which gives you a 30-day
trial, go to http://www.activevos.com/download-trial.php . You will be asked for your email
address and you'll be emailed an evaluation license key good for 30 days.
As of this writing, the current version of Active Endpoints Server is 5.0.2. After downloading,
follow these steps to install it on Windows:
1. Run the executable file ActiveVOS_Designer_windows_<version>.exe.
2. A wizard will launch, and you'll be asked to browse to the location of your license file.
The URL of the file should have been given to you in the email you received after re-
gistering. You can use your browser's File→Save As feature to download the file locally.
Make sure to save it as a text file, or the browser may try to save it as HTML, which will
corrupt the key.
3. Active Endpoints Designer will use an in-memory Tomcat server, and you'll be asked to
choose ports.
4. You'll then be asked for the location where Designer should be installed. Once the installer
is complete, you'll be ready to go.
Installing on Linux is even easier:
1. Untar activeVOS_designer_<version>.tar.gzdirectly into the directory from which you
want to run it.
2. To start the Designer IDE, double-click on {install-dir}/designer/designer.
