In-Depth Information
Here is a valid, formal URN definition that identifies this topic:
urn:isbn:9780596520724
.
This URN is formalbecause it uses the officially registered namespace
isbn
, where officially
registered means “defined and recognized by IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority).”
You may see other variations around as well, such as
urn:example.com/quotes
, but these
lack a degree of formality.
NOTE
This topic uses URLs and informal URNs on different occasions, to highlight that both are allowed.
My URNs are informal in order to be short, and invalid because IANA doesn't recognize them. Your
SOAP messages will work the same, regardless of which one you use. It is important in an SOA con-
text, however, to establish a clear and concrete convention for namespaces early and stick to it.
