SQL Data Sync comprises four main components:
SQL Data Sync service
Windows Azure SQL Database
Windows Azure Storage
Data Sync Agent
The Windows Azure Administration portal is the user interface to the SQL Data Sync service. This service is
responsible for executing the synchronization, communication with the Windows Azure SQL Database and Windows
Azure Blob storage, and handling receiving incoming requests from the Data Sync agent and the Windows Azure
Administration portal.
Windows Azure Blob storage is used for the temporary storage of batch files containing the uploaded
data changes.
The key in the architecture is the SQL Data Sync service itself. It is the heart of the synchronization process. The
SQL Data Sync service communicates with all the other components in the architecture and manages the flow of data
execution of all tasks.
